Waste and Effluent

Why Is It Important?

Effective waste and effluent management supports compliance, reduces environmental risk and improves resource efficiency. At Sime, we focus on reducing waste to landfill, increasing recycling and ensuring hazardous waste is managed safely. This strengthens our licence to operate, lowers operating costs and enables data-driven decisions that support a shift towards more sustainable and circular operations.

Our Approach

01 Embed a consistent, Group-wide approach to waste stewardship that supports long-term sustainability and operational goals.

02 Apply the waste hierarchy (avoid, reduce, reuse, recycle) across all operations to minimise environmental impact and promote resource efficiency.

03 Monitor waste performance monthly to drive improvements and ensure compliance.

04 Strengthen waste classification, segregation and traceability at operational site level.

05 Partner with qualified waste providers to improve handling, recovery and disposal outcomes.

Performance Data

For FY2024, the Group's total Scheduled Waste saw a slight increase compared to FY2023. This figure is anticipated to rise further once the data from the newly acquired UMW division is incorporated into the Group’s total.
